Yesterday is Still Today

Yesterday is Still Today was a performance that inhabited the form of an artist “talk” given through the Todd Madigan Gallery at CSUB during the height of distanced learning in April of 2022. It stands as a culminating event to a collaborative artist residency, collective workshop series, and an ongoing pedagogical project, Weird Alms. Yesterday is Still Today deconstructs the theatricality of everyday life, the way we perform ourself through the construction and awareness of “ambiance”, relationships between the imagination and the actual, and the ways in which deep meaning can be found in the uncontrollable dimensions of “weather”, “states”, and interruptions.
As a part of this talk, collaborators Tim Tsang, Melissa Achten, Paul Outlaw, Eli Klausner, and Jedediah Caesar collaborated to facilitate, disrupt, and offer peripheral disturbances that allowed the edges of the “talk” to permeate into other spaces through life sound feeds, intermittent song singing, staged harp performance, puppetry, and the activation of “stage cues” within my house.
